More and more females are finding their feet in franchising, carving out a career that meets business and personal goals. And the franchising industry is all the better for it.

Growing Number of Females Moving into Franchising

According to a report carried out by American Express, 39 percent of all private-owned businesses are owned by females. Looking at the statistics of females in franchising, between 2011 and 2017 the number of female-owned franchises rose by 83 percent, compared with a 13 percent growth in the number of male-owned franchises during this same period.

Some Facts on Females in Franchising

The child services sector has the highest number of female franchisees, with 51 percent, closely followed by the hospitality and travel industry with 50 percent, and retail sitting at approximately 43 percent. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the automotive industry has the least number of female franchises, sitting at only five percent, followed by the home services industry with 10 percent and the food industry with 15 percent.

Why Franchising is Attracting Women

Franchising allows you to work for yourself, but not by yourself. Proven business systems, a track record of success, a known brand name and the marketing power of a larger company is what draws people to the business franchising concept.

Many people, including an increasing number of women, are looking to gain career independence, create a more flexible work-home lifestyle, not be limited to a corporate role or corporate ladder and reach financial goals. And franchising offers business owners and entrepreneurs the opportunity to work towards these things.

Women, in particular, tend to hold some beneficial traits that suit the franchise business concept. Greater financial caution and greater risk aversion is what seems to draw females to joining in business with an established and proven company, where the future female franchisee can see tried and tested business systems in place and working successfully.

The tendency for females to work well in collaboration with others, bring with them strong communication skills and network well lends them to the idea of franchising as a realistic and achievable career opportunity.
