Want to Work from Home? Start a Business
Home-based franchises continue to grow in popularity because of their practicality, accessibility and affordability. Franchise expert Derek Cafferata shares about working from home.
The Rise of Home-Based and Mobile Businesses
Working from home is more common than you may think. According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), approximately 50 percent of all businesses are home-based.
A home-based business is one that can be operated and administered from home. There is no need for a store front or commercial space in order for the business to function. Generally, home-based businesses are relatively small and have few or no employees. However, this is not always the case.
Some work-from-home businesses are solely run from home, with no need for the business owner to venture away from the home office, such as Internet-based businesses. Others may involve providing services to customers or completing business activities outside the home office, but the administration of the business is carried out at home, like an educational tutoring business.
Work from Home in a Variety of Industries
According to Derek Cafferata, CEO and President of franchising experts All State Franchise Finders, there is a home-based franchise to suit anyone. Work-from-home businesses are found in a wide range of industries, including travel, advertising and marketing, online retail, business consultancy and tax and accounting. More mobile businesses can be found in service-based industries like automotive, residential and commercial cleaning, senior healthcare, home maintenance and repair and educational tutoring.
“One of the great things about finding a franchise you can work from home with is that many of them don’t require prior experience,” says Derek. “We work with so many new franchisees who moving into a new industry and are able to learn and train with the franchisor training offered.”
Derek has found that, in fact, taking on a home-based franchise often gives people the opportunity and confidence to branch out in a new direction with a complete career change. “The training and development that most franchisors offer their new franchisees is excellent,” says Derek. “It offers greater flexibility for a potential franchisee to move into almost any industry they want without feeling the need to have prior experience.”
Popular Home-Based Franchises
Some of the more popular home-based franchises include those that provide educational tuition. Huntington Learning Centre and Code Galaxy are examples of some quality franchise opportunities that offer excellent training and set-up, low cost franchise fees and strong brand name, making them the ideal option for someone looking to work from home in their own business.
